5 Ways to Spend your Pomodoro Break

For those of you who aren’t already familiar with it, the Pomodoro Technique is a method of working with time to increase your productivity and decrease distractions. It’s great for managing procrastination as well, something we’ve all been guilty of at one time or another. The Pomodoro Technique involves selecting a task, working on it for 25 minutes and then taking a five minute break. This cycle is known as a Pomodoro. Every four Pomodoro’s, you’re encouraged to take a longer 20-30 minute break.

Going back to those little five minute breaks, we know five minutes can seem like a very short amount of time. In order to make this time work for you, here are some of our favourite ways to spend those breaks which will help boost your productivity.

Go For A Walk

Whether it’s just up and down your street, or around your backyard — get moving! For those of you who have to stare at a screen most of the time for work, it can be such a great way to rest and refresh by getting outside and enjoying some fresh air too.

Meditate

Sometimes we can get caught up in our work so much that we forget to breathe. Meditation can also help to improve the flow of oxygen to your brain which will help you to process information more efficiently, think more clearly and keep you in the best headspace.

Stretch

No one likes to sit at a desk for hours on end. Put a yoga mat down and do a simple 5 minute yoga flow. Moving your body and breathing in accordingly will also help to increase blood flow around your body.

Water Your Plants

Water your plants or do any other small task. This might be taking out the trash or folding your laundry. Whatever it is, ticking off all of these extra tasks will help you to feel more productive and keep you motivated. Even better, you won’t have to take out the trash or fold your laundry after you’ve clocked off for the day.

Organise Your Workspace

By the end of the day, we know how messy your desk can get. Maybe there’s empty glasses of water, charger cables, sticky notes or notebooks lying around. These five minutes are the perfect opportunity to declutter your space so that you can get back to work without getting distracted by the chaos that is your desk.
